Bristol Palin's ex-fiancé, U.S. Marine Dakota Meyer, has stepped forward as the father of her baby, Sailor Grace. The 25-year-old daughter of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin gave birth to her second child Dec. 23.

While Bristol has been very open with her fans about her pregnancy, she never revealed who the father of her baby was. However, Meyer seemingly confirmed the speculation Thursday shortly after Sailor's birth.

As previously reported, Bristol announced she was pregnant again in June, just one month after calling off her engagement to Meyer. The two split one week ahead of their wedding. At the time, Bristol released a statement dismissing rumors that the reason behind their split was that Meyer was still allegedly married to his ex-wife.

“Dakota was legally divorced years ago,” she wrote. “As usual, false stories and dramatically written headlines begging controversy should be disregarded, and we have faith that our privacy will be respected at this time by those with decency.”

Bristol and Meyer never revealed why they abruptly ended their engagement, but a source recently told Radar Online that Bristol reportedly had been telling her friends that it was "partly because he was supercontrolling and made her move to Kentucky.”

Following the arrival of baby Sailor, Sarah Palin took to her daughter's website to gush over the newborn, calling the birth the "best gift ever!"

“Thank you, Bristol, for your strength and good heart and your love of life. The most important people in Bristol’s life were there to witness the miracle of Sailor Grace Palin’s arrival last night,” she wrote.
