In New York trading on Monday, the British currency strengthened against most of its major counterparts from European session's downtrend. After touching multi-day lows of 1.4114 against the US dollar and 135.78 versus the Japanese yen in European deals, the pound reversed its direction in New York morning and hit highs of 1.4237 and 138.62, respectively. As of now, the sterling is trading near 137.77 against the yen and 1.4184 versus the greenback.

Against the euro, the pound ticked up in New York session and hit a high of 0.9259 by about 11:20 am ET from earlier low of 0.9343. Currently, the pound is worth 0.9264 versus the euro, compared to Friday's close of 0.9285.

Against the Swiss franc, the sterling also showed strength in New York morning and climbed to 1.6391 at about 1:05 pm ET. The pound-franc pair that closed Friday's deals at 1.6397 is currently trading at 1.6354.
