A 28-year old newlywed had a fatal case of cold feet this weekend -- hurling himself into the Harlem River just hours after he exchanged vows with his high school sweetheart and the mother of his two children.

Fernando Brazier had reportedly been suffering from depression and was overwhelmed by pressure to marry Trudian Hay, 26.

The couple exchanged vows at the Radisson Hotel in New Rochelle on Saturday night, according to the New York Post, which published a photo of the couple walking down the aisle. The snapshot of the beaming bride hand-in-hand with her groom gives no indication of the tragedy that would soon follow.

After leaving a note for his new bride in their room at the Radisson, Brazier reportedly took a taxi to a building bordering the Bronx River, about 15 minutes away, and either jumped from the building or from the promenade behind it.

Brazier's sister, Shawna Weeks, told The Post Brazier's note said he couldn't take it anymore, and to take care of the kids. She said he left his wedding ring behind.

Weeks said that her brother was reluctant to go through with the wedding, but that he felt he had little choice.

He would tell me that Trudy is a good person, [but] he didn't want to marry her; he was feeling like he was pressured, Weeks told the Post.

At a family dinner two nights before the wedding, Weeks said her brother looked strained.

You could see it in his eyes, she told the Post. He looked like he didn't sleep for days.

Brazier's aunt, Lee Brown, told the Post she'd spoken to her nephew just before the ceremony, asking him if he wanted to go through with it.

Brazier reportedly told her, It's too late now.

Fernando's mother, Paula Brazier-Weeks, did not appear to have realized how much distress her son was in.

The day of the wedding, on the dance floor, he was happy, Brazier-Weeks told the Post. He was looking at his girls - they had beautiful dresses on.

Trudian Hay is reportedly devastated and shocked by the loss.

She was stroking his head, said Paula Brazier-Weeks, who joined Trudian at the Medical Examiner's office. She said, 'He was having trouble, and when he has trouble he goes for a walk, but he always comes back. But he didn't come back this time.'

Hay and Brazier are the parents of two young daughters, ages 5 and 2 1/2.

The couple's Target.com wedding gift registry is still active.
