KEY POINTS

  • BTS' "Butter" is at No. 1 on the Hot Trending Songs chart
  • SB19 took the No. 2 spot with their new track "Bazinga"
  • "Permission To Dance" slid down to No. 10 on the chart

It is still a close match between two of the hottest boybands on Billboard's Hot Trending Songs chart as BTS resurfaced at the top of the chart this week, while its closest contender, SB19, took second place.

The global sensation's "Butter" took the throne once again after the band was displaced by Pinoy pop (P-pop) group SB19's "Bazinga" last week. On the chart dated Dec. 11, SB19 officially became the first act to dethrone the massively popular Korean boyband from Billboard's newly-launched music chart. SB19 and its latest single, "Bazinga," claimed the top spot with 1.5 million Twitter mentions or 67% of the tweets within the tracking week that ran from Nov. 26 to Dec. 2. The same week, BTS took the No. 2 and No. 3 spots with "Butter" and "Permission To Dance" respectively.

Kim Jong-In, also known as Kai, a member of boybands The Exo and SuperM, debuted at No. 3 on the chart with his solo track, "Peaches," this week. Newly-formed South Korean girl group IVE took the fourth spot with its first single, "Eleven."

Another debut single found itself at No. 5 on Billboard's Hot Trending Songs. "Walls" from former One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson climbed the chart through the single, which is nearly two years old. The tune is the title track of his solo album released in January 2020. His fans suddenly launched conversations about the song on Twitter until it found its way into the Hot Trending Songs chart.

This week's sixth spot belongs to Dimash Kudaibergen's "Fly Away." Mew Suppasit's "Spaceman" is at No. 7, Japanese boyband BE:FIRST's debut single "Gifted" is at No. 8 and Lisa Manobal's "Lalisa" is at No. 9.

Far behind at No. 10 is BTS' "Permission To Dance," which fell seven tracks below from its position last week on the highly competitive chart.

The two-month-old Hot Trending Songs tallies the 20 most talked-about music-related topics on Twitter covering activities from Friday up to Thursday of each week.

The highest-ranking debut this week is from the girl group IVE, whose members were recently accused of mocking Indian culture after they were caught on camera imitating a traditional Indian dance movement and laughing about it afterward.
