The protester who suffered injuries after two police officers knocked him to the pavement during a rally in Buffalo, New York, has been released from the hospital Tuesday (June 30).

75-year-old Martin Gugino spent nearly a month in the hospital after hitting the back of his head on the sidewalk. This came after officers Aaron Torgalski and Robert McCabe pushed the elderly peace activist when he attended a George Floyd protest that gathered outside Buffalo City Hall.

Gugino is currently recovering at an undisclosed location to protect his privacy, said ABC 7.

His lawyer, Kelly Zarcone, spoke on his behalf and thanked those who helped him recover from his injuries.

“Martin wants to thank the entire hospital staff for their exceptional dedication and professionalism. He received truly outstanding care and for that, he is grateful,” said Zarcone.

Gugino was first admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Erie County Medical Center following the June 4 incident. It was captured on video and showed the victim lying motionless on the ground and seemed to be unconscious.

Doctors pronounced Gugino in serious but stable condition, said a friend who wanted to remain anonymous.

Zarcone, who claimed that Gugino suffered a fractured skull and brain injury after the fall, also said that her client underwent physical therapy and that Gugino knew about his injuries.

“I am not at liberty to elaborate at this time other than to confirm that his skull was fractured. While he is not able to walk yet, we were able to have a short conversation before he became too tired.

He is appreciative of all of the concerns about him but he is still focused on the issues rather than himself,” Zarcone told Fox News.

Gugino, through Zarcone, told CNN that it was “very unnecessary” to focus on him and that there are “plenty of other things to think about besides me.”

Torgalski and McCabe were suspended without pay following the incident involving Gugino. Both were charged with second-degree assault and have since pleaded not guilty.

The officers were released without bail after a hearing and are scheduled to return to court on July 20, said Fox News in a separate article.
