Wednesday, a report from the Bulgarian National Bank showed that the current account deficit stood at EUR224.7 million in February, lower than the deficit of EUR657.8 million last year.

During the month, the deficit on the goods account narrowed to EUR351.4 million from EUR593.5 million last year, while the services account showed a surplus of EUR2.8 million, reversing from a deficit of EUR63.1 million in the previous year.

The surplus on the income account grew to EUR15.7 million from EUR13 billion. At the same time, there was a surplus of EUR108.3 million in the current transfers account, in contrast to a deficit of EUR14.3 million in the previous year.

Meanwhile, the capital account posted a surplus of EUR13.7 million in February, up from a surplus of EUR11.6 million last year. However, the surplus in the financial account decreased to EUR237.3 million from EUR911.2 million in the previous year.

In the January-February period, the current account surplus narrowed to EUR649.3 million from EUR1.46 billion in the same period last year. During the period, the current account deficit was 1.8% of GDP compared to 4.3% last year.
