Tuesday, Bulgaria's National Statistical Institute said in a report that the consumer price index or CPI rose 4.9% year-over-year in March, slower than the 6% increase in the previous month.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages prices grew 2.2% annually in March, while clothing and footwear prices climbed 7.9%. Transport charges dropped 5.3%.

On a monthly basis, the CPI dropped 0.2% in March, in contrast to a 0.1% rise in February.

The harmonized index of consumer prices or HICP rose 4% on an annual basis in March and it fell 0.3% compared to the previous month.
