Tourist arrivals into Bulgaria declined 7.3% year-on-year in March to 334,417, the National Statistical Institute said Monday.

With respect to the European Union countries, tourist arrivals declined the most from Malta, by 37.6%, followed by a 28.7% decline in arrivals from UK. Double-digit declines were also seen from Denmark, Portugal, and Sweden. At the same time, tourist arrivals increased 7.3% from Romania, 2.6% from Germany and 2.2% from Hungary.

Among the non-EU countries, arrivals from Norway dropped the most by 46.4%, followed by a 31.8% decline from Serbia and a 19.2% fall in arrivals from Turkey. However, tourist arrivals increased 8.4% from Japan and 7% from Israel.

Meanwhile, departures made by Bulgarian residents abroad slipped 15.1% in March from last year to 403,718.
