Burma has banned Michelle Yeoh, the Chinese-Malaysian actress of Crouching, Tiger Hidden Dragon fame.

Yeoh, who is set to portray pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi in an upcoming film, was deported by Burma's military government immediately after arrival at the Rangoon International Airport last week.

Last November, Yeoh met with Suu Kyi, whose National League for Democracy won a 1990 free election, but was never recognized by the nation military leadership. Suu Kyi was placed under house arrest for nearly 20 years, when her popularity among the Burmese people threatened to destabilize the military regime.

Suu Kyi was forbidden from running in Burma's recent elections, which her party chose to boycott.

Yeoh met at Suu Kyi's Rangoon home.

The film entitled The Lady, is being directed by renowned French director Luc Besson in neighboring Thailand.

The film will hit theaters in late 2011.
