On Monday, it was reported that Microsoft will be launching a promotional offer that would allow Lumia 950 XL buyers to avail Lumia 950 for free. The offer is now active on the online Microsoft Store in the U.S. and Canada.

The Lumia smartphones are not selling well because of which Microsoft mobile business suffered a 73 percent drop in sales in the previous quarter. The retailers are reportedly returning unsold units of Lumia smartphones to Microsoft. Moreover, the Lumia 950 and 950 XL flagship smartphones that were launched in October 2015 have not helped the company increase its sales.

Hence, in a bid to clear the existing stocks of its flagship phones, Microsoft has launched a buy-one-get-one (BOGO) offer in the U.S. and Canada. The BOGO offer allows Lumia 950 XL buyers to get a Microsoft Lumia 950 worth $549 for free.

The Lumia 950 XL carries a price tag of $649. The BOGO offer is only applicable on unlocked versions of Lumia 950 XL and 950 available on Microsoft Store.

The free Lumia 950 is only available in black color. The Redmond, Washington, giant has not revealed the last date for the offer, which indicates it may continue until the supplies last. Students can also take advantage of the 10 percent discount on the price of Lumia 950 XL.

The Lumia 950 XL has a 5.7-inch Quad HD AMOLED screen whereas the Lumia 950 has a 5.2-inch AMOLED screen that also supports Quad HD resolution. The 950 XL is powered by Snapdragon 810 SoC and features 3,430 mAh battery whereas the 950 smartphone features Snapdragon 808 chipset and 3,000 mAh battery.

Both the devices feature 20-megapixel camera with OIS and triple-LED flash along with a selfie shooter of 5 megapixels. The other common specs on both phones include microSD card support, native storage, USB Type-C and iris scanner.
