For years, Kristen Stewart has been teased via viral Internet memes for never smiling, but this week the former “Twilight” star was looking very happy, apparently pleased about her new gig with Chanel.

The 23-year-old actress, just announced as the new spokesperson for the French fashion house’s pre-fall line, made an appearance at the Chanel Paris-Dallas 2013/14 Metiers d’Art Show at Fair Park Tuesday. Stewart was joined by other notable faces at the traveling Karl Lagerfeld event, including her former four-time co-star and real-life friend, actress Dakota Fanning, and “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” star Lily Collins.

Despite the recent controversy surrounding the line’s Native American-inspired feathered headresses, Stewart had nothing but kind words for Chanel visionary Lagerfeld and his American Western collection. “It’s transportive. It takes you somewhere else without feeling remotely like a costume,” said Stewart. “Everything was really, elegantly beautiful and forward and kind of badass and yet, cowboy-themed, which you wouldn’t think went together.”

Fanning, 19, who can be seen in a behind-the-scenes clip mingling with Stewart at the event, was also a fan of the collection and its unique setting. “I think [Lagerfeld] sort of bridges the gap in a way that only he can,” said the actress, adding, “Picking Dallas as a location and kind of running with that theme, only he would sort of think of doing that and ... in a way that isn’t cartoony ... It feels very authentic and very cool at the same time.”

On Wednesday, Vogue U.K. confirmed that Stewart had signed on as a spokesperson for Chanel. The blockbuster film star’s campaign will reportedly be released in May 2014.
