California Pizza Kitchen Crispy Thin Crust White
California Pizza Kitchen Crispy Thin Crust White products subject to recall are production codes 3062525951, 3062525952 and 3063525951. U.S. Food and Drug Administration

Because consumers reported they found small fragments of plastic in a frozen-pizza product, the Nestle USA unit of Nestle SA (VTX:NESN) has announced a voluntary recall of certain production codes of four different California Pizza Kitchen and DiGiorno frozen pizzas distributed nationwide in the U.S., according to the Food and Drug Administration.

The company said consumers reported they found the plastic on the California Pizza Kitchen Crispy Thin Crust White pizza.

"Our investigation indicates this is directly related to a particular lot of spinach we received from one of our suppliers," Nestle USA said. "Although no complaints have been received to date on the other three varieties that used this spinach, we are recalling these additional varieties in an abundance of caution."

Products being recalled by the company are as follows:

California Pizza Kitchen Crispy Thin Crust White

-- UPC 71921 98745

-- Production codes 3062525951, 3062525952 and 3063525951

California Pizza Kitchen Limited Edition Grilled Chicken with Cabernet Sauce

-- UPC 71921 00781

-- Production code 3059525952

DiGiorno Crispy Flatbread Pizza Tuscan Style Chicken

-- UPC 71921 02663

-- Production codes 3057525922 and 3058525921

DiGiorno pizzeria! Bianca/White Pizza

-- UPC 71921 91484

-- Production code 3068525951

All the pizzas being recalled were produced during either February or March of this year. No other products are being recalled.

"Because Nestle USA delivers pizzas in the U.S. directly to retailer freezer cases, we have already instructed our direct store delivery team to begin removing pizzas affected by this recall at retail locations nationwide," the company said. "We also are working together with our retail partners to ensure that these varieties are removed from freezer shelves nationwide."

Nestle USA also advises consumers to examine their freezer inventory for the packages of California Pizza Kitchen and DiGiorno varieties being recalled.

To locate the production codes for these specific pizzas, the company counsels consumers to look for either a blue or a pink rectangular box on one of the side panels of the pizza box. The production code is on the second line of the printed code, and it is the first 10 digits of the number there. Accordingly, consumers should look for these production codes:

-- California Pizza Kitchen Crispy Thin Crust White: 3062525951, 3062525952 and 3063525951.

-- California Pizza Kitchen Limited Edition Grilled Chicken with Cabernet Sauce: 3059525952.

-- DiGiorno Crispy Flatbread Pizza Tuscan Style Chicken: 3057525922 and 3058525921.

-- DiGiorno pizzeria! Bianca/White Pizza: 3068525951.

Consumers who may have purchased the recalled pizzas with the identified production codes should not consume the pizza, Nestle USA said. Rather, they should contact the company's Consumer Services by emailing nestlepizza@casupport.com or phoning (800) 456-4394. Nestle USA said it would provide a replacement coupon to each reporting consumer, and the company also may make arrangements to retrieve the pizza for further examination.
