Users of Sony's PlayStation 4 game console can mark their calendars: Developer Treyarch has announced the start of a multiplayer beta for “Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.” Starting Aug. 19, PS4 players will have exclusive access to the beta testing.

In a Twitter message, the developer teased that more information will be coming soon. While access to the multiplayer beta will be limited to the PS4, Treyarch has also confirmed that Microsoft Xbox One and PC players will get a shot at a later date.

Before the beta, however, "CoD" fans can check out the zombie mode for “Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.” At San Diego Comic-Con, Treyarch has unveiled "Shadows of Evil," the survival mode for the latest installment. Details of the mode have been revealed on the official "Call of Duty" website. As a co-op experience, the "Shadows of Evil" mode will have its own storyline and XP progression system. The world features a 1940s Morg City that takes inspiration from horror movies, with four playable characters having their own role in the story.

Similar to the zombie mode for last year’s “Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare,” "Shadows of Evil" will feature celebrities including Ron Perlman, Heather Graham, Neal McDonough and Jeff Goldblum, Engadget reported. Presumably, the celebrities will be featured as the characters for the survival mode. Graham is a femme fatale nightclub worker, Goldblum is an arrogant magician, McDonough is a currupt police officer and Perlman is a destructive boxer.

Treyarch did not fully explain the progression system, stating only that it will add to the depth and replayability of the zombie mode. See the "Shadows of Evil" trailer below.

A new collector’s edition for “Call of Duty: Black Ops 3” also has surfaced, titled the "Juggernog Edition." This zombie-themed collection features a fully functional mini-fridge, coasters, steel bookcase, “The Giant” zombies in-game bonus map, personalization items, concept art and a soundtrack, Game Informer reported. It will also include a season pass for future downloadable content (DLC). “Call of Duty: Black Ops 3” is set for a Nov. 6 release date.
