'Call Of Duty: WW2'
'Call of Duty: WWII' leaked last month, and evidence suggests its first trailer or official reveal may be this weekend. Did IGN and these trusted sources spill the beans? 'Call of Duty: WWII' is believed to release this year on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Sledgehammer Games/Activision/TheFamilyVideoGamers

Call of Duty: WW2 has been a known industry quantity for quite a few weeks, and soon those previous leaks may become reality. Cryptic statements made during this week’s IGN Game Scoop podcast have been given new meaning thanks to some trusted sources.

Around the 49-minute mark in the video below, IGN editor Marty Sliva teases “over the weekend we will get some cool news and there will probably be a big thing happening next week.” He adds that more details will be available “probably by the time we record this show next week.”

Obviously a vague allusion like that could relate to any hot 2017 release from Red Dead Redemption 2 to Sea Of Thieves or Crackdown 3, but it’s what happened after that hint went live that gave us pause. First came a tweet from the Twitter account of the Call of Duty fan site, CharlieINTEL. It very simply recapped Sliva’s words with a thoughtful emoticon.

As if that wasn’t enough, famed Kotaku news editor and leaker Jason Schreier also mused, “I'd venture it starts with a ‘C’ and ends with an ‘all of Duty: WW2.’”

Both tweets are far from a confirmation of anything, but, when two qualified sources are in total agreement, it’s just enough to get the hype train rolling. The folks behind CharlieINTEL have almost assuredly gained enough favor with Activision over the years to have some insider knowledge of an impending reveal. Schreier, on the other hand, clearly has valid development connections considering his accurate leaks concerning Destiny 2 , No Man’s Sky and other triple-A titles.

It also doesn’t hurt that, even if these sources aren’t fully aware of what’s to come, the timing fits perfectly with a Call of Duty-related announcement. For the past several years Activision has specifically tied franchise reveals to pre-E3 festivities and the NBA playoffs. As luck would have it, that’s exactly the time period we’re in right now. For a frame of reference, the reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare went live last May 2. This weekend is slightly before that day, but the assumed scheduling is close enough to matter.

Call of Duty: WW2 first leaked at the end of March and has since been associated with a rumored release date of Nov. 3. It’s believed to be in development at Sledgehammer Games for a 2017 release.
