Camila Cabello Shades Fifth Harmony, Says 5H Performances Weren’t Important

Although it has been almost nine months since Camila Cabello decided to leave Fifth harmony, there still seems to be plenty of tension between the two parties since her abrupt exit. During a recent interview, the “Havana” singer discussed a festival she headlined over the summer and managed to shade her former group in the process.

While chatting with Billboard and reflecting on her time as a headliner at the Billboard Hot 100 Festival, Cabello revealed that it was a monumental moment in her career compared to working with her old music group.

“It’s my first festival as a soloist. We did a few with Fifth Harmony, none that important. I love it, it’s a completely different experience. To share the stage with Major Lazer, huge guys who’re awesome on festivals because they bring the audience together and everyone is jumping, is very different to what I am doing with Bruno Mars, where almost everyone is going to see him,” Cabello said.

The “Crying in the Club” singer went on to reveal that the popular festival had a unique atmosphere. “The good thing in the Hot 100 is that there is more of a mixture, there are more artists and more audience for all.”

Cabello’s shade towards Fifth Harmony comes a few weeks after her former group dissed her during their performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. The four remaining members of the group, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane Hansen, Ally Brooke Hernandez and Lauren Jauregui, appeared on an elevated stage with a fifth member. However, when the music started, the fifth member, who symbolized Cabello, jumped off the stage, leaving the four women front and center to perform.

Although some fans were not happy the diss, Fifth Harmony stood by their decision.

During an appearance on the Billboard Pop Shop Podcast, the group explained that they wanted to have a powerful performance that addressed Cabello’s exit but didn’t expect it to receive as much attention as it did.

“I couldn’t say that was necessarily the intention because I feel like the whole performance was just a creative capture of our story - from beginning to end, there’s so many different elements that told that story,” Jauregui said.

Despite the muddled message, the “Angel” artist seemed content with the feedback the group received after taking the stage.

“So I don’t know if we particularly thought that people would only focus on that, but it was an element that was important to our storytelling, so … it’s cool that people talked about it. Hey, if people were talking about our performance that’s what matters, right?” she added.

For now, Cabello is focusing on her career which includes being the face of Guess and working on her upcoming album, “The Hurting, The Healing, The Loving.”

“I love doing stuff for fashion, and the Guess team is amazing. However, I just focus on music 24 hours a day. I am constantly working to become a better artist, and how to be a better musician,” she told Billboard.

Cabello’s debut solo album is expected to be released this fall.
