Extending previous session's downtrend, the Canadian currency declined further against the US dollar during New York trading on Monday. As of now, the loonie is trading near a 12-day low of 1.2608 against the greenback, compared to Friday's close of 1.2383.

The loonie also traded lower against other major currencies in New York mid-day deals today. Against the euro, the loonie ticked down and currently trading at 1.6578, which may be compared to Friday's closing value of 1.6462. The Canadian currency dropped to a 10-day low of 76.63 versus the Japanese yen at about 3:40 am ET today. The loonie-yen pair that closed last week's New York session at 79.09 is now trading at 77.28.

After hitting a multi-day high of 0.8468 at about 5:35 am ET, the loonie also weakened against its Australian counterpart in New York deals today. At present, the loonie is worth 0.8571 from Friday's close of 0.8592.
