The Canadian currency edged down against its major counterparts on Monday morning in New York as crude oil prices dropped below $50 per barrel again. The loonie dropped to a 4-day low of 1.6326 against the euro, 1.2302 against the US dollar and 81.56 versus the Japanese yen by 10:00 am ET, compared to Thursday's North American session closing values of 1.6118, 1.2239 and 82.1, respectively.

Light sweet crude for May delivery fell to $49.12, down $3.12 for the session. Prices touched as low as $48.86 after hitting as high as $52.15 in overnight deals.
