FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - The global economic slowdown seems to have affected Canadian labour market, as the volume of unemployed workers posted an increase that beats any other increase in previous economic downturns, according to figures by Statistics Canada.

Canadian unemployment rate has jumped to 7.2% in January from 6.6% in December, due to a 129,000 net loss on employment, figures much larger than the 40,000 net loss on employment forecasted by market analysts.

The manufacturing sector has been the largest contributor to January's jobless increase, with a 101,000 net jobs lost, only health care and social assistance industries have posted net gains on employment.
