Payrolls Drop By 345K: Unemployment Reaches Highest Since 1983

www.TheLFB-Forex.com The Trader Forex Portal

Non-Farm Payrolls (May) Actual -345k, Expected -520k, Previous -504k (Revised from 539K)

Unemployment Rate (May) Actual 9.4%, Expected 9.2%, Previous 8.9%

Release Explanation: A statistic researched, recorded and reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics intended to represent the total number of paid U.S. workers of any business. The report excludes the following employees:

The NFP impacts the Market with huge volatility because of the constant revisions to the previous reporting periods. The accompanying Employment % number tends to be much more reliable in its monthly report. The Average Hourly Earnings will add to, or contain the impact of the number of jobs created. These 3 components go to make for explosive NFP Fridays.

“Outside of the Interest Rate Statement, this is the most important guide for US$ Traders planning for the weeks and months ahead as the Labor Market will indicate the potential strength of future economic growth. A strong economy usually equates to a strong currency,“ TheLFB-Forex.com Trade Team said.

TheLFB-Forex.com Trade Desk Thoughts: According to the Non-Farm Payroll report, the U.S. economy shed only 345K jobs in May, even though the market expected the report to show that the economy lost 520K. The April read was revised lower, from the -539K initially released to -504K.

On the other hand, the unemployment rate surged 0.5%, to 9.4%, much more than expected. From the beginning the current downturn in the labor market, unemployment had risen by 7.0 million persons, which is equivalent to a 4.5% rise in the unemployment rate. The number of persons working part time remained at 9.1 million in May. The number of such workers’ has risen by 4.4 million during the recession.

The economy lost approximately 225K jobs in the goods production, from which the staggering majority came from manufacturing, -156K, while the rest were recorded in the construction department. The service side of the economy lost 120K, while the only sectors that added new employees in May were education and health, up by 44K, together with leisure and hospitality, up by 3K. The death/birth model added 220K jobs, much more than in the previous few months.

“The U.S. economy lost only 345K jobs, the least in the last eight months. However, negative news came from the unemployment rate, which continued to surge to the highest level since 1983. Over the last thee months, evidence has mounted that the economic contraction is slowing and this release certainly strengthens that view,” TheLFB-Forex.com Trade Team said.

Forex Technical Reaction: The currency market had a very strong reaction to the news release. The euro surged 80 pips, while the pound gained 50 pips, but these moves were completely retraced in the following few minutes. The S&P futures jumped 8 points as the report hit the wires, breaking above the 945.00 resistance area.

Long Island University vs. North Carolina (Live Coverage)

For Roy Williams, erasing last season's miserable record is already complete.

The Tar Heels had a record of 16-16, and failed to make the NCAA Tournament in 2009. This year, however, not only are they back in the tournament, but they're the No. 2 seed in the East Region.

Roy Williams team finished on a low note by losing to rival Duke. However, with a 26-7 record, they've been stronger than some predicted.

Tonight, they face 15th-seed Long Island University, located in Brooklyn, New York, in Charlotte.

The Tar Heels would have a major advantage over the Blackbirds on any court, but with the game being played in their home state you may not fault the team for perhaps looking ahead to playing the winner of Washington and Georgia in the third round.

Long Island finished the season with a record of 27 wins and five losses, but lacked a win against a top opponent.

The Blackbirds are led by Julian Boyd, David Hicks, and Jamal Olasewere. The trio are averaging over double digits in points per game.

Long Island lack a player over 6'7 who gets major playing time.

Of all the 32 games, this matchup could be the most one sided.

North Carolina has a great deal of firepower, and will likely use it in the first half.

Center Tyler Zeller is averaging 14.5 points per game, and a little more than seven rebounds.

He's joined in the front court by Harrison Barnes, who is averaging 15 points per game. Barnes is considered among the most talented freshmen in the nation.

John Henson is a terror on the boards, averaging 10.4 per game.

The game tips off at about 7:15.

U.S. Threatens Attacks on Gaddafi Forces, Won't Send Ground Troops

President Barack Obama on Friday threatened the use of military force against Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, but said any action would not involve U.S. troops on the ground.

Friday's statements come after the U.N. Security Council on Thursday voted to allow military action against Gaddafi's forces to protect Libyan civilians.

Obama said Gaddafi had to stop his troops from advancing on the eastern city of Beghazi and pull them back from several others, while establishing utilities to all the country and allowing the entry of humanitarian assistance.

These terms are not subject to negotiation. If Gaddafi does not comply with the resolution, the international community will impose consequences, and the resolution will be enforced through military action, he said.

Obama emphasized that the U.S. was prepared to act as part of an international coalition.

He said the U.S. would provide the unique capabilities that we can bring to bear .. including enabling our European allies and Arab partners to effectively enforce a no fly zone.

He also emphasized what the U.S. would not be doing.

The United States is not going to deploy ground troops into Libya.  And we are not going to use force to go beyond a well-defined goal -- specifically, the protection of civilians in Libya, he said.

He noted that Britain, France and the members of the Arab League have already committed to take a leadership role in the enforcement of the U.N. resolution.

Actress Michelle Kelly

Kelly Brook, who is starring in Keith Lemon: The Film, was a knockout in silver on day six of the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. The 32-year-old pin-up wowed the crowd and even garnered an indecent proposal from a very wealthy and very eager male suitor during her jaunt in the French Riviera.

Kelly Brook flaunted her curves in the one-shoulder Itala dress in Ocean Sequin from Project D's AW 2012 collection with a thigh-high slit. The pin-up model and newbie actress accessorized with diamond link drop-earrings, a jeweled clutch and matte red lipstick. She donned her hair in an oversized 60s bun, oozing a true Old Hollywood aura.

Before strutting down the Cannes red carpet, Brook attended a photo call where a moneyed male suitor attempted to offer the beautiful Brit $1 million for one night with her.

The Daily Mail reported that Brook was interrupted by a businessman known only as Frederic who attempted to finagle an evening with the pin-up while she posed for photos at the Majestic Barriere Hotel.

Brook was reportedly confused at first and thought that the offer was part of a prank set up by Lemon. However, Frederic would not take no for an answer and attempted to grab the curvy beauty.

Just one night! Please, one night! I have money! he yelled before security escorted the man out of the hotel.

Like a true professional, Kelly Brook, who began modeling at the age of 16, continued her photo call unfazed.

Other dazzling divas on day six of the Cannes Film Festival were singer Najwa Karam and new Bond girl Berenice Marlohe. Karam looked sophisticated in a long-sleeved nude Zuhair Murad gown with ornate white lace embroidery. Marlohe went for the gold in a gilded Emilio Pucci gown with pleated skirt and crisscrossed neckline.
