Cardi B quitting Love & Hip Hop
Cardi B reveals Season 7 of “Love & Hip Hop: New York” will be her last. VH1

Cardi B quickly became one of the breakout stars on Season 6 of VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop: New York,” but the Brooklyn native announced that she will soon be saying goodbye to the reality show. During a recent radio interview, the outspoken rapper opened up about some of the downsides to being on television and explained why she was ready to move on from “Love & Hip Hop.”

While chatting with New York radio station Hot97, Cardi revealed that the coming seventh season will be her last. “I’m not gonna be on ‘Love & Hip Hop’ no more … I only got one more season left, last season,” she confessed.

Cardi explained that she felt like she was already a superstar before joining the cast — she’s well known for her Instagram account — but producers didn’t feel the same way. “I just had to show them again,” she said. The former stripper also hinted that Mona Scott-Young, who created the show, was being “funny with the schmoney.”

Cardi did acknowledge that being on TV has its benefits, but told the radio show’s hosts that there’s some things she doesn’t like about constantly being in the public eye. “You know what, when you grow up and what not everybody like, ‘I wanna be famous,’ and it’s just like when you do become famous and everything your life changes so much. I remember like a year ago … I barely had money like that and I was struggling but I was a little bit happier,” she explained. “I was a little bit more content. I felt a little bit more free, I could say whatever I want. I could talk however I want, I could look however I want, I could post my family on Instagram. Now it’s just like … I get criticized all the time. It’s like it don’t stop. Everything that I think is normal, it’s a little kind of scandalous.”

In an Instagram video this month, Cardi opened up about her struggles with fame, telling her fans that she now understands why some celebrities can’t handle the pressure of being in the spotlight. “I always wondered why a lot of these celebrities and everything, they be committing suicide … and I was like what the f---, y’all n----- got schmoney. Why y’all wanna die? ... Now that I’m getting more in the industry I know why, I know why … Everybody wanna be famous, everybody wanna rich but I’m telling you bro there’s no schmoney that can get you amazing peace of mind,” she said.

While fans may be sad to hear that Cardi is leaving, they may be glad to hear that Amina Buddafly plans on returning to the franchise. It was speculated that expectant singer would quit following a drama-filled Season 6 with her husband, Peter Gunz, and his ex-girlfriend, Tara Wallace, but she confirmed she would be back during an interview with Afro Elle magazine. “It depends if they pay me what I want,” she jokingly said. “But I might, now that I’m away. I’m away from the situation that I hated so much and that made me look so foolish. I’m away from that, so I would probably do it again.”
