A sportscaster’s somber recap of the St. Louis Cardinals’ 6-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates was interrupted when a Cardinals fan attempted to give him a kiss on the cheek.

Pittsburgh station WTAE's sports anchor Guy Junker had the unenviable task of delivering the news of the Cardinals’ NLDS-clinching victory over the Pirates on Wednesday night. Junker began his live report outside of Busch Stadium in St. Louis just as a stream of Cardinals fans decided to make their way in his direction.

Junker attempted to keep his cool as several fans, holding signs and shouting, streamed past the WTAE camera. But the sports anchor’s calm demeanor shattered when one Cardinals fan, complete with a team jersey and her hair dyed a shade of Cardinals red, attempted to kiss him on the cheek.

The woman stopped short of actually kissing Junker, but the sports anchor took note of her antics. To his credit, Junker simply smiled at her and continued his commentary as if nothing had happened. A video of the Cardinals fan’s kiss is already a big hit on YouTube.

Besides the attempted kiss, Junker and the rest of Pirates nation had little to smile about after Wednesday’s loss. The perpetually underachieving team enjoyed their best season in more than 20 years in 2013, ending a multi-decade playoff drought and pushing St. Louis to a decisive Game 5 in the NLDS. But a strong effort by Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright and a home run from 2011 World Series MVP David Freese marked the end of Pittsburgh’s Cinderella playoff run.

The Pirates may not be headed to the NLCS, but fans will always be able to look fondly upon the night that a red-haired Cardinals fan attempted to kiss Guy Junker. The video of her antics can be viewed below.
