The Galaxy Note 8 is unlikely to be Samsung’s first smartphone with dual cameras. The tech company could be planning to test the waters first before joining the market of dual-camera phones. And a new leak appears to confirm a previous report that the South Korea giant is launching a Galaxy C installment with a dual-camera setup prior to debuting the Galaxy Note 8.

On Tuesday, someone leaked photos of what appears to be back cases for a new device. The leaker shared the pictures on Twitter and even claimed that they are for the Galaxy C10, an upcoming mid-range handset from Samsung. The Chinese leaker also indicated that based on the plastic covers, the Galaxy C10 could come equipped with a dual-camera module on the back and a dedicated Bixby button.

It is very noticeable in the photos that there is a huge oblong cutout on the phone case. It is believed that this is for the dual-lens camera module of the Galaxy C10. There also appears to be a smaller cutout that is said to be for the rumored Bixby button that Samsung is planning to implement on its newer releases. There’s no way of confirming the legitimacy of the new leak at this point. Samsung is tight-lipped about its plan to introduce a phone that has dual cameras. It has not even confirmed whether the Note 8 will indeed come with this camera technology.

Last week, there was a report that Samsung is expanding its Galaxy C series this year by launching the Galaxy C10 and Galaxy C10 Plus. The two phones were said to debut with the model numbers SM-C9100 and SM-C9150/9158, as per SamMobile. There was also mention that these mid-range handsets will come with impressive specs and features. It wasn’t made clear however if both will be rocking dual cameras when they launch. But if they do, it should not come as a surprise since most Chinese manufacturers are already implementing the dual-camera system with their mid-range phones.

Samsung originally intended to make the Galaxy S8 as its first smartphone with dual cameras. Unfortunately, certain issues have caused the tech giant to scrap the plan and equip the flagship device with a single rear camera at the last minute. Since the plan fell through, Samsung has reportedly decided to introduce its dual-camera technology with the Galaxy Note 8. However, it will not do so without testing the technology first with another handset. Given that it only has the S and Note series as its flagship lines, the company has turned to its mid-range offerings. This explains why the South Korean manufacturer has chosen the Galaxy C10 to carry its first dual-lens module.

Meanwhile, South Korean analysts have recently claimed that the dual-camera setup on the Galaxy Note 8 will likely be composed of a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens and a 13-megapixel telephoto lens. Industry watchers have also shared that the module is going to be capable of 3x optical zoom, which is larger that the iPhone 7 Plus’ optical zoom.
