Season 7 of “Castle” began with aftermath of a failed wedding and Beckett (Stana Katic) and the rest of the police searching for a kidnapped Castle (Nathan Fillion). The ABC series will pick up again in 2015 with Castle and Beckett now successfully married, but the police largely trying to forget about the writer after his ties with the mafia got a suspect killed in the midseason finale Monday, leaving him banned from working with the force. With Castle’s future uncertain, TV Line got the scoop on what’s coming in 2015 for him and Beckett.

According to a TV Line interview with “Castle” executive producer David Amann, it might be awhile before Castle can get back in the police force’s good graces. In the meantime, the writer will get a new job. Castle will reportedly start working as a private investigator due to inability to resist finding a way to solve cases.

In the midseason premiere, debuting Monday, Jan. 6, Castle will get hired by someone to work the same case Beckett is on for the police. Of course, the show would find a way to get them both together again, but how will they handle the fact that “Castle” is disallowed from working with his new wife?

"He will attempt to run a parallel track with her — and of course it will not go entirely smoothly, especially since this is his first case ever as a private investigator," Amann said.

Plus, what about Esposito (Jon Huertas) and Lanie (Tamala Jones)? Things were looking up for the on-again, off-again couple, as they appeared to be engaged only a couple episodes after that subway hostage crisis forced them to reconsider their feelings for each other. However, in the midseason finale the couple decided to just be friends.

Amann told TV Line, “It’s good for our show when not everybody is settled down, so we wanted to be able to keep them a bit footloose and fancy-free.” Don’t expect them to change their minds anytime soon.

How will Castle handle his ban from the police force? Fans will have to wait until January 2015 to find out. The midseason premiere of “Castle” airs Jan. 6 at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
