Jaden Smith, the son of actors Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, is only 18 years old, but he already has a full resume. Smith has been starring in films since he was eight years old, and he recently released his latest single in December. He cracked gender stereotypes in the fashion world after being photographed in dresses over the past couple of years. Plus, he’s prolific — and famously confounding — on Twitter.

Lately, though, he has been getting attention for something else: Activism. Thursday it was announced that Smith would be a featured speaker at the Environmental Media Association’s inaugural impact summit, along with former NSYNC singer Lance Bass and others.

This would not be the first time Smith has participated in advocacy — he began what was supposed to be a four-year live stream in January with actor Shia LaBeouf to protest Donald Trump’s presidency (although it was “abandoned” by the Museum of the Moving Image) on Friday. He also participated in protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline in October alongside his sister, Willow Smith. In September, he founded JUST Water, a company that sells "responsibly sourced, produced and packaged for improved environmental and community impact.”

With the Trump administration floating plans to gut the Environmental Protection Agency, Smith is one of many celebrities who has crossed the line from entertainment to advocacy and invested time and effort in environmental activism. Jessica Alba, for instance, teamed up with an environmental scientist to found The Honest Company, which creates products that are sustainable and transparently sourced. And many others, including Shailene Woodley and Mark Ruffalo, have pledged their support for Standing Rock.

Smith’s father, Will, said in October he was proud of his son’s activism.

Jaden “had me a little teary as I witnessed the next generations (sic) global agents of change!" Will Smith wrote on Facebook.
