Health insurer Centene Corp said on Thursday that it planned to cut 35 jobs from its work force of 3,000 and to record severance costs and an impairment charge in the fourth quarter.

The company said the charges, which it expects to total about $12 million, were not included in its fourth-quarter earnings outlook of 46 cents to 51 cents a share.

Centene also said it expected 2008 earnings of about $1.76 to $1.86 a share on revenue of $3.35 billion to $3.45 billion, excluding premium taxes.
