Cereplast, Inc. designs and manufactures proprietary bio-based, sustainable plastics which are used as substitutes for petroleum-based plastics in all major converting processes at a competitive price. The company offers resins to meet a variety of customer demands in areas like the automotive, consumer electronics, packaging and food service industries.
The company announced today that it has entered into a distribution agreement with Polimernet Plastik Limited to supply Cereplast bioplastic resins to the Turkish market. Under the terms of the agreement, Polimernet Plastik will supply Cereplast Compostables resin to product and package manufacturers in Turkey. The contract involves a minimum of 100 tons of Cereplast resin per month for 2011. That number is expected to grow in 2012 and beyond.
This agreement is another step in Cereplast’s growth strategy to secure quality distribution partners in key regions such as Europe. According to European Plastics, the bioplastics industry in Europe is growing at a rate of roughly 20 percent per year.
Turkey, in particular, looks set to be a growth market for Cereplast. The country is one of the top three countries in Europe that have adopted bioplastic material for products and packaging in an attempt to safeguard the environment. Turkey trails only Germany and Italy in Europe in the use of bioplastics. Its economy is, by far, the strongest in Europe with GDP growth of around 8 percent.
