Channing Tatum may be taking a seat in the directors chair for "Magic Mike 2."

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Tatum shared that he is considering directing the film and working on the project with his producing buddy Reid Carolin.

This comes after "Magic Mike" director Steven Soderbergh announced plans last year to retire from creating films, though Soderbergh did say he wanted some involvement in the sequel.

Tatum has attempted to talk Soderbergh into returning to direct the film but insists that there is a backup plan in place.

"Either Reid Carolin and I will direct it together, or we'll have Greg Jacobs direct," Tatum said. "He worked as a producer on the [2012] movie and has been Steven's right-hand man for almost 25 movies."

"Right now, we're just trying to clean up the story, and then we'll make a decision. But it is hard for me and Reid to direct after one of the greatest directors of our time. Steven has argued [for us to do so]. He has said he would shoot it; he would DP it."

Tatum has said that the sequel will be "more of a comedy" than the first film.

"Magic Mike," which was loosely based on Tatum's own life, earned $39.2 million in its first weekend, claiming the No. 2 spot behind the film "Ted."
