Rumors swirled for months that “Stranger Things” co-stars Charlie Heaton and Natalia Dyer were dating — and they didn’t do anything to help the rumors when TMZ caught up with them outside Los Angeles International Airport Wednesday. The couple has a complicated relationship on the Netflix series and it’s seemingly just as complicated in real life.

Neither actor confirmed they were dating, but both of them danced around the topic when the paparazzo said dating a coworker can be difficult. “Well, I mean, whether people are dating or hanging out, I think that our cast is just cool with each other. I mean, I won’t speak for anybody else, but we’re all a big family,” Dyer, who plays Nancy Wheeler, said.

Heaton, who plays Jonathan Byers, argued the speculation about their dating lives was blown out of proportion because of the show's success. “There’s a lot of buzz about the show in general and it’s blown into a huge show. So, you know, people like to read into certain things,” he said.

When the cameraman noted it looked suspicious that the two “Stranger Things” stars were together, Heaton added: “Well, yeah, people would read into that, I guess.”

The actor sparked more rumors when he posted a photo last week of a girl eating take out in his bed. The cryptic photo cut off the subject’s head, which led many to think the person in the image was Dyer. The post was liked more than 77,000 times by Heaton’s 642,000 followers.

While Heaton’s dating life is unclear, there is one thing that is certain: He’s excited for Season 2 of “Strange Things,” which will premiere on Netflix this Halloween. “I didn’t know what to expect about where the show was going. But it trumped whatever I was thinking. A lot of things are going to be addressed,” he told GQ Magazine Monday.

Heaton could relate to his character on the series. “I wasn’t a total outsider at school like Jonathan, but I wasn’t necessarily the popular kid either,” he said. “I felt I understood why Jonathan was the way he was — a bit of an older soul… I had a very humble upbringing like him and was also brought up by my mother. I also liked the idea of how he’s trying to discover himself and work out who he is and where he belongs.”
