KEY POINTS

  • Erling Haaland is contracted with Dortmund until 2024
  • Dortmund are not looking to sell him this summer
  • He is also a target of other top clubs such as Real Madrid and Liverpool

Chelsea are reportedly preparing a massive $184 million offer for Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.

Despite Dortmund’s insistence several times publicly that they are not looking to sell Haaland this summer, Chelsea want to test the German club’s resolve over Haaland’s transfer. The Premier League giants have made Haaland their main target in the ongoing summer market, reported ESPN.

"Chelsea have him as their main target. They would like to test Dortmund with a fantasy offer, and a fantasy offer will be around £135m ($184m) - double what they can get for him next summer," soccer player-turned-transfer specialist Jan Aage Fjortoft told ESPN in a video.

It is believed Dortmund are not ready to consider offers for Haaland unless the fee is $204 million or more, which may prove to be too much for Chelsea. Especially since Haaland will be up for grabs for as low as $88 million in the 2022 summer. However, it won’t be surprising if Chelsea match Dortmund’s hefty demands this time as the Stamford Bridge owner Roman Abramovich sees Haaland as a generational talent who can take the team to a new level for the next decade, according to soccer website 90Min.

However, former Norwegian center-forward Fjortoft, who scored 20 goals in 71 appearances for his country, also insisted that Haaland will mostly stay with Dortmund for another year.

"It's interesting to follow, but most likely, he will stay with Dortmund. Dortmund are saying all the time 'he will stay, he will stay'. They said that about [Jadon] Sancho one year ago and he stayed, so it is most likely that Haaland will still be a Dortmund player in this coming season, but we're waiting for that big, big offer from Chelsea," Fjortoft added in the same ESPN video.

Moreover, it was earlier reported that Real Madrid have agreed to personal terms with Haaland, who is contracted with Dortmund until 2024.

Whichever club lands Haaland this summer or in 2022, they are aware that apart from the transfer fee, they will also have to shell out heavy agent fees to pay out to both Mino Raiola and Haaland's father, Alf-Inge.
