Ahead of the first leg of Chelsea’s Champions League tie with Galatasaray on Wednesday, Jose Mourinho has admitted that his side is hampered by the lack of a top-quality striker.

Chelsea’s three strikers -- Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba -- have only scored 10 Premier League goals between this campaign and the club have been repeatedly linked with big name forwards in the past year. Radamel Falcao has been cited as featuring prominently in Chelsea’s thoughts both before and after his move to Monaco. In a piece for French television station Canal Plus, Mourinho was heard joking about his current striker and the possibility of securing Falcao.

"The problem at Chelsea is that we are missing a striker,” he said, according to The Guardian. “I have one in [Samuel] Eto'o but he is 32, possibly 35, who knows. I don't have Falcao but Falcao doesn't have a club. Who wants to play in front of 3,000 supporters? If I was one day to go to Monaco it would be the end."

Falcao is currently ruled out with a serious knee injury and has also been linked with Real Madrid. If he was to leave in the close season, Monaco would surely be looking to recoup the €60 million (£49.5m) they paid to secure him from Atletico Madrid last summer. However, the fact that Falcao and Mourinho are both represented by super-agent Jorge Mendes may help any potential transfer.

During the segment on Canal Plus, Mourinho also discussed the possibility of signing Paris Saint-Germain forwards Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani.

“Ibrahimovic? It’s impossible,” he said of the player he won a Scudetto with at Internazionale, according to Sky Sports. "He's happy in Paris. I know because we're in contact, we're friends. With their financial potential, I don't think Paris will ever open the door for him to leave.

"Cavani is a very good player,” he added about the Uruguayan who signed from Napoli for £56 million last summer. “But Paris paid a lot of money for him and he has an amazing contract.”

In recent weeks there has been speculation that big-spending PSG will look to prize Eden Hazard away from Stamford Bridge in the summer. Hazard came to prominence as part of the Lille side that won the Ligue 1 title in 2011 before subsequently joining Chelsea for £32 million a year later. After a promising first season in England, Hazard has become a more consistent game-changing presence this campaign under Mourinho. The club’s most potent attacking threat, he leads them in both goals and assists this season. Unsurprisingly, Mourinho has asserted that they have no interest in seeing the 23-year-old leave anytime soon.

“Eden is our boy," he explained, reports The Guardian. "We want him to stay for 10 years. We want to build the team around him. He's a player with the style of football that we want to have in our team."
