Chicago Bears Hire CFL’s Marc Trestman As New Head Coach?

Fox Sports analyst Jimmy Johnson tweeted Friday that the Bears have hired Marc Trestman from the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes.

There has been no official confirmation from the Bears.

Trestman spent the last five seasons with the Alouettes, and last coached in the NFL in 2004, as the quarterbacks coach for the Miami Dolphins.

After starting 6-1, the Bears stumbled the rest of the season and missed the playoffs under Smith, who had taken the team to the Super Bowl with a stout defense. The offense floundered under Smith, which ultimately decided his fate.

The Bears reportedly were looking for a more offensive minded coach, and Trestman fits that bill. If he is the hire, the 56-year-old will try to get the most out of quarterback Jay Cutler, and top receiver Brandon Marshall.

Chicago interviewed many candidates, including Indianapolis offensive coordinator Bruce Arians, who did wonders with rookie Andrew Luck.
