The “Chicago Fire” cast is adding a former vampire hunter. “The Vampire Diaries” actor Steven R. McQueen will join the NBC drama for Season 4.

McQueen will play Jimmy Borelli, a potential fireman. The newbie will make a “dramatic entrance” on his first day, according to TV Line, and he’ll end up making enemies right away. His rough start will irritate Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker), but he’ll have to clean up his act if he wants to stick around. As of right now, McQueen is only scheduled to appear on a recurring basis.

This will be a “Vampire Diaries” reunion for McQueen and Taylor Kinney, who plays Kelly Severide. The “Chicago Fire” veteran guest starred as Mason Lockwood, who helped introduce werewolves to “The Vampire Diaries” in Season 2. He was killed off the show, but McQueen was one of the lucky few actors to be written off “TVD” without a gruesome death scene. His character Jeremy decided to go off and hunt vampires outside of Mystic Falls in Season 6.

Several “Vampire Diaries” fans have been wondering what McQueen’s next gig would be. On Friday, the actor announced that he had to cancel an appearance at Creation Entertainment’s “The Vampire Diaries Official Convention” due to a scheduling issue caused by a secret job.

“I’m sorry I can’t be at the ‘Vampire Diaries’ convention in New Jersey this weekend,” he told fans on Instagram. “I booked a new job and I have to go to Chicago. I can’t tell you what it is yet, but hopefully, you’ll find out pretty soon.”

“Chicago Fire” executive producer Danielle Gelber snapped a photo of McQueen in Chicago. Her other tweets indicate that it’s the first week of filming, so audiences can likely expect to see the actor in the Season 4 premiere.

“Chicago Fire” Season 4 premieres on Tuesday, Oct. 13, on NBC at 10 p.m. EDT.
