Two Chicago-area schools were closed and about 40 children were evacuated following reports of a gas leak in Cicero, Ill., Thursday afternoon.

Fourth and fifth graders at two Cicero elementary schools – Cicero East and Cicero West -- reported smelling gas, and all of them were taken to a hospital, according to CBS Chicago.

A gas line was damaged in Cicero when a landscaping company attempted to plant a tree around noon, CBS Chicago reported.

A child with asthma complained of feeling ill, but no serious injuries were reported from the gas leak, according to the Chicago Tribune. Gas company crews were working to stop the leak in the gas main, which was described by the paper as being two inches.
