“Chicago Med” Season 2 premiered an emotional episode Thursday in which an officer in Chicago’s police department was wheeled in to the hospital after she suffered a serious injury. The drama upped a notch on the NBC series when it was revealed that the injured officer was the one that arrested Maggie (Marlyne Barrett).

What will happen next week on “Chicago Med”?

The hospital’s chief administrator, Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson), will ask Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell) to operate on an unusual patient – a politician/diplomat. The promo of the upcoming episode, titled “Graveyard Shift,” shows Goodwin saying that if the surgery goes sideways, it could become an international incident. Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) advises Goodwin to treat her like any other patient. “But clearly she isn’t,” Goodwin replies. Both Choi and Rhodes try their best to keep her alive.

Rhodes’ surgery on a politician will be the highlight of this episode.

Meanwhile, Dr. Sarah Reese (Rachel DiPillo) will have a long night ahead of her as she works the graveyard shift. She pronounces multiple patients dead in “Chicago Med” Season 2, episode 11. Their deaths take an emotional toll on her.

Elsewhere in the hospital, Nurse April (Yaya DaCosta) gets called into work and her fiancé Tate (Deron J. Powell) is unhappy with the fact that she isn’t slowing down. Given that she is pregnant and suffers from tuberculosis, Tate’s concerns are extremely valid.

“Chicago Med” Season 2, episode 11 will also see Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) pass along some vital information to Dr. Latham (Ato Essandoh).

Charles’ daughter Robyn (Mekia Cox) will also appear in this episode. It looks like she and Rhodes will finally go on their date.

Tune in to “Chicago Med” Season 2, episode 11 on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
