“Chicago Med” Season 3 is not going to air a brand new episode this Tuesday. Fans will have to wait until next week to watch episode 9.

There isn’t a given explanation on why “Chicago Med” isn’t returning to NBC tonight with an all-new episode. However, this is obviously a move done to give way for the State of the Union, in which President Donald Trump is expected to talk about the current condition of the country.

Interestingly, the synopsis for Season 3, episode 9, titled “On Shaky Ground,” is already teasing of another action-packed installment. Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) and April (Yaya DaCosta) will have to deal with a patient whose family might have been abusive. The doctor and nurse tandem will have to decide if calling child services is what’s best for their patient.

Elsewhere, there’s going to be tension between Dr. Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) when they take on a medical case that involves a premature baby. The love birds will not see eye to eye on how they professionally want to guide a couple struggling with an underdeveloped child.

Dr. Reese (Rachel DePillo), who finally returned last week after her two-week suspension, will also handle a different case. For some reason, she will join Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt) as the latter heads to the Cook County jail. This suggests that the psychiatric resident’s composure in the face of a tough patient will once again be tested.

Meanwhile, the greatest challenge in “Chicago Med” Season 3, episode 9 will fall in Dr. Rhodes’ (Colin Donnell) hands. Unfortunately, he will be persuaded to perform a risky and unconventional procedure on Dr. Bekker’s (Norma Kuhling) mentor, Dr. Marvin Jaffrey (guest star Malcolm McDowell), who is also a world-renowned surgeon.

A sneak peek at episode 9 shows Dr. Rhodes asking Dr. Jaffrey, “You would like to be awake for the surgery?” The veteran surgeon immediately responds, “Of course.” The teaser then jumps to the operating scene, and it’s clear that Dr. Jaffrey is not the type to maintain a passive role in a surgery. He even interferes with the type of surgical knife the doctors are using on him.

“Chicago Med” Season 3, episode 9 is set to air on Feb. 6 at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
