Chicago P.D.
Lindsay and Halstead's pasts will be explored in “Chicago P.D.” Season 4. Catch the season premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 10 p.m. EDT on NBC. Matt Dinerstein/NBC

Things are going to heat up on NBC’s “Chicago P.D.” this fall. In last season’s explosive finale, Hank Voight killed his son Justin’s murderer. He asked Lindsay (Sophia Bush) to leave in order to avoid being a witness to the murder. In Season 4, Voight (Jason Beghe) will realize the full extent of his actions.

Here’s what will happen in Season 4 of the police procedural:

1. Episode 1 Synopsis

The Season 4 premiere kicks off about one week after the Season 3 finale with the intelligence unit of Chicago’s police department investigating a murder-arson case. Upon further examination, it becomes clear that the victim was wearing a Chicago P.D.-issued wire at the time of his death. Justin’s death will hang heavy over Voight.

Commander Crowley (Barbara Eve Harris) is suspicious of Voight’s involvement in Justin’s case in episode 1. She may even suspect that he killed his son’s murderer. However, she has no proof to back up these suspicious. Hence, the Commander questions Lindsay about her and Voight’s location on the night that intelligence pursued Justin’s killer.

Meanwhile, Officer Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) gets a new partner, Julie Tay (Li Jun Li). This new patrol officer has come from the worst job in the city – writing parking tickets. Together they respond to their first call and Tay shares some details of her past.

2. Episode Titles

NBC released the titles of the first couple of episodes. They are:

  • Episode 1 – “The Silos”
  • Episode 2 – “Made A Wrong Turn”
  • Episode 3 – “A War Zone”
  • Episode 4 – “Big Friends Big Enemies”

3. New Character

“Chicago P.D.” will introduce Burgess’ new partner Tay in the Season 4 premiere. Li’s character actually rebuffed her Commanding Officer’s sexual advances which led her to doing the worst job in the world (writing parking tickets). He derailed her once promising career.

4. Lindsay and Halstead Live In Together

Hurray for Linstead! Not only will Lindsay and her boyfriend Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) live in together, but the couple will be closer than ever on “Chicago P.D.” In Season 4, Lindsay will lean on Halstead for advice and support regarding her situation with Voight.

5. An Investigation Into Voight

Voight isn’t going to get away with murder easily. An investigation is launched into the Sergeant and Commander Crowley pressurizes Lindsay to spill the beans. During this difficult time, Lindsay will need all the help she can get, including Halstead’s assistance. She is torn between protecting her mentor and being the target of an investigation. Worse still, since Bush’s character knows what Voight did that night, she can be charged with accessory to murder. Yikes!

6. Major Story For Trudy Platt

Desk Sergeant Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) will also have a major storyline in an upcoming episode of “Chicago P.D.” Season 4. Someone will jump on her and attack her brutally. In fact, she will be beaten within an inch of her life.

7. Crossover Romance

#OneChicago may not happen till “Chicago Justice” premieres during midseason, but a crossover romance will take between a character in “Chicago P.D.” and its parent series “Chicago Fire.” Paramedic Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) and Detective Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda), Gabriela Dawson’s (Monica Raymund) brother, will be in a relationship. On the surface, it looks like these two characters are poles apart. But as Season 4 progresses, “Chicago P.D” fans will realize that they are a perfect fit for each other.

8. Lindsay’s and Halstead’s pasts explored

Lindsay’s father is set to make an appearance on the NBC drama series. Furthermore, Halstead will also have some juicy backstories.
