The number of Internet users in China grew to 162 million by the end of June, the China Internet Network Information Center said Thursday.

The report also said the number of broadband Internet users is122 million. The number of mobile network users more than doubled to 44.3 million.

CNNIC said that Internet penetration in China is currently 12.3 percent compared to 9.4 percent a year ago.

CNNIC defines an '˜internet user' as one who is older than six years old and who uses the Internet at least one hour per week.
