China sees risk from euro debt problems

China still sees risks from euro-zone debt problems and has taken steps to support Europe since last year, the foreign ministry said on Thursday.

China has responded to the problems by maintaining its holdings of euro-denominated debt and encouraging trade, ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said at a regular news briefing.

Asked about the resignation of Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates after parliament rejected his government's latest austerity measures, she said that China wanted to keep promoting comprehensive, strategic relations with Portugal.
