Chip Kelly New Philadelphia Eagles Head Coach?

According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen’s Twitter feed, Kelly will be named the Eagles next head coach.

“Chip Kelly is the new coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, according to league sources. No announcement yet," Mortensen said Wedenesday.

Kelly was considered the favorite after Oregon blew out Kansas State in the Fiesta Bowl earlier this month, and with his high-powered offense already being mimicked in the NFL.

But Kelly also took himself out of the running and was reportedly going to back to Eugene, despite meeting with Phildelphia and team owner Jeffrey Lurie for seven hours the day after the Fiesta Bowl.

In four seasons with the Ducks, Kelly led the team to four straight BCS bowls and many pegged his flirtation with the Eagles as a ploy to squeeze a raise out of Oregon. He turned down a chance to coach the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the end of last season, but was still seen as a top candidate when NFL teams came calling.

Philadelphia was looking to replace Andy Reid, who spent 14 seasons with the Eagles, but was fired after a 4-12 mark this year. Reid was picked up almost immediately by the Kansas City Chiefs.
