Chris Brown’s probation stemming from a 2009 assault of then-girlfriend Rihanna was revoked Thursday after the singer traveled to San Jose from Los Angeles County without approval from court, media reports said. Brown was not taken into custody as the Los Angeles judge allowed him to remain free at least until March.

Brown, who appeared in court with his mother and girlfriend Karrueche Tran, was not allowed to leave Los Angeles County as part of his probation deal. Brown's attorney Mark Geragos reportedly told the court that his office had mistakenly informed the 25-year-old singer that he could go to Northern California for his concert. But, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge James Brandlin said that it was Brown’s responsibility to ensure that all terms of his probation were followed.

Brown’s San Jose performance last week witnessed a shooting that injured five people, media reports cited local police, as saying. The judge reportedly ordered the probation department to look into the incident.

Brown, who still has 200 hours of community service to complete, can face up to four years in jail, according to media reports. A court hearing has been set for March 20.

Meanwhile, a source told Hollywood Life that the “Loyal” singer wanted to get married to his model girlfriend before his court hearing as he's worried he may go to prison.

Chris is “scared and he’s contemplating marrying Karrueche now before his situation gets worse. If Chris has to go to prison for a while, he wants Karrueche to be taken care of and in charge of his entire estate. In order for that to happen, he’d have to marry her,” a source told Hollywood Life. “He doesn’t trust many people and his mother isn’t really in a position to be in charge of all his stuff. He loves Karrueche, trusts her and wants her to be in control, should he have to go to prison.”

“Chris is thinking ahead because he doesn’t know what will happen in March. He could go to prison or he could be free. But what he does know is that he wants his girl to have full and complete access and power over all of his affairs and to make sure that legally happens. She’d have to be his wife and he’s cool with that,” the source reportedly said.
