It looks like the recently revealed divorce between comedian Chris Rock and Malaak Compton-Rock is starting to get a little heated. New court documents show that the couple is having a bit of trouble deciding custody over their children.

According to Rock’s divorce filing with the Superior Court of New Jersey, obtained first by E! Online, the 49-year-old standup is claiming that his soon-to-be-ex is keeping him from seeing his daughters Lola, 12, and Zahra, 10.

"Notwithstanding that the parties have been separated, [Compton-Rock] has repeatedly refused to permit [Rock] normal and usual access to the children, and has acted in a manner detrimental to the children's best interests,” the court document reads. “[Rock]'s conduct as aforesaid will be further disclosed by continuing discovery and is directly contrary to the best interests of the children."

It was revealed earlier this week that not only were the two splitting after 19 years of marriage, but also they’d been separated for the past six months. Although reps for both sides have said that they don’t expect the divorce to be overly contentious, this new complaint seems to show they’re having trouble agreeing on custody. Rock has asked for joint custody but it’s unclear if Malaak is on board.

Speaking to People Magazine, her lawyers addressed the claims that she’s keeping the children from Rock.

“Malaak is saddened and disappointed that Chris has accused her of keeping their children from him, which he knows is untrue and can be so easily disproved,” attorney David Aronson told the outlet. “We all know Chris leads a very busy public life while Malaak and their children definitely do not. She hopes the privacy of their children is still as important to Chris as it is to her and that it will be respected. They will always be the main focus of her life.”

There’s no word yet on the degree to which Rock feels his children are being kept from him or what justifications he has for the accusations. The divorce came as a surprise to many. However, as The Huffington Post noted, fans of the comedian’s stand-up act likely picked up on his distaste for married life through some of his jokes over the years.
