Chromecast Home Screen Update
Google has updated the Chromecast with a new firmware that offers a refreshed home screen and bug fixes, however some are complaining that the update has created more problems than it has fixed. Google Chromecast

Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) announced last week that it would be rolling out an update to the company’s streaming dongle (Build 14651) refreshing the Chromecast home screen. The new Chromecast home screen offers a plethora of rotating wallpapers, as opposed to the stagnate image on earlier versions of the streaming device’s operating system.

The new home screen images on the Chromecast can be viewed (for now) here. A poster in the XDA-Developers forum found the link that Chromecast uses to load the revolving series of images.

Google says the update also includes a few “bug fixes” for the Chromecast, and the build number has been bumped to 14651, but some customers are having issues caused by the update.

Most complaints were by customers whose Chromecast’s were having issues casting Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) following the update. Some complained about error messages, including “Error 16003” -- which caused issues with Netflix playback.

Google has not returned a request for comment at the time of this writing. However, the company explains how to completely reset the Chromecast on a Google FAQ, which may fix the issue for users. Please note that it does require users to set up the Chromecast again, including inputting WiFi information:

There are two ways to Factory Data Reset (FDR) your Chromecast:

Factory Data Reset your Chromecast from the Chromecast app. You will find the option to FDR under ‘Settings’ or ‘Menu’ or

Physically hold down the button on your Chromecast for at least 25 seconds or until the solid light begins flashing.

Google recently announced 10 new apps that would support the Chromecast, including streaming music service Songza.
