Rock and roll legend Chuck Berry died Saturday at 90, according to police in Missouri. Berry, who was often called the “father” of rock and roll, was found unconscious at lunchtime, St. Charles County police said.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the police department said first responders to the singer’s home were unable to revive him.

"Unfortunately, the 90-year-old man could not be revived and was pronounced deceased at 1:26 p.m. [2:26 p.m. EDT]," the statement read. “The St. Charles County Police Department sadly confirms the death of Charles Edward Anderson Berry Sr., better known as legendary musician Chuck Berry.”

Berry’s career as a guitarist, singer and songwriter spanned over several decades and his music had an impact on many musicians. Last October, on his 90th birthday, it was announced Berry’s latest album “Chuck” will be released in 2017 — the date of the release, however, remains unknown. This would be his first album to be released in 38 years.

In 1984, Berry received a lifetime achievement Grammy and, in 1986, was among the first inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Here are some of Berry’s quotes, gathered from BrainyQuote and AZ Quotes:

“I grew up thinking art was pictures until I got into music and found I was an artist and didn't paint.”

“Don't let the same dog bite you twice.”

“My music is simple stuff. Anybody can sit down, look at a set of symbols and produce sounds the music represents.”

“Curiosity provoked me to lay a lot of our country stuff on our predominantly black audience and some of our black audience began whispering ‘who is that black hillbilly at the Cosmo?’”

“You don't just go to the studio and say, 'I'm going to write a hit.' It becomes a hit when people like your compositions.”

“If the people in the audience are talking, you're being ignored. If the people are gazing at you, you've got something they want to hear.”

“It's amazing how much you can learn if your intentions are truly earnest.”

“Music is an important part of our culture and record stores play a vital part in keeping the power of music alive.”

“I would sing the blues if I had the blues.”

“Rock 'n' roll accepted me and paid me, even though I loved the big bands I went that way because I wanted a home of my own. I had a family. I had to raise them. Let's don't leave out the economics. No way.”
