Citibank’s online account site has been hacked and credit card information of their customers and around 200,000 account information have been stolen.

There is possibility that hackers did fraudulent charges to those accounts.

The bank said social security numbers, birth dates, card expiration dates or card security codes were not stolen by the hackers.

Unauthorized access took place and it is believed that customers' names, account numbers and email addresses were stolen.

Hackers reportedly had access to account information of 1 percent of 21 million credit-card holders. Citi's debit cards, however, weren't affected.

According to the bank, During routine monitoring, we recently discovered unauthorized access to Citi's Account Online.

For the security of these customers, we are not disclosing further details, it said in a statement.
