Karrueche Tran said that playing Virginia on TNT’s new drama series “Claws” has changed her fashion style a little bit.

In a recent interview with W magazine, Tran revealed that Virginia’s nail designs have influenced her to try other kinds of manicure in real life. “Playing Virginia has definitely made me want to change my style a bit,” the actress said. “Virginia always has fun nails, and it’s made me get acrylic long nails as opposed to my usual gel mani.”

Tran, however, doesn’t see herself wearing Virginia’s clothes in a day-to-day basis. “I’m a little more on the simple side,” Tran said of how her choice of clothes differs from that of her character. “I like to wear clothes that look the best on my body, which is why I wear a lot of crop tops and high waisted bottoms — it gives me more shape and makes me look taller. I like to try new styles and trends, but I’m not as daring as Virginia.”

“Virginia is overly trendy,” Tran continued. “Her outfits scream: ‘Look at me!’ She wears a lot of bright colors, lots of booty shorts and fish nets. “She comes from the strip club, so she mixes that into her everyday fashion. Clear stripper heels are her favorite.”

Tran admires Virginia’s trendiness but the actress has one issue about her character’s fashion sense. “Her problem is that she wears all the trends at once,” Tran told Marie Claire of the stripper-turned-manicurist.

While Tran doesn’t generally share Virginia’s fashion style, the actress said that she can connect to her character in a different way. “I relate to her in a sense of she has layers,” Tran told Refinery29. “We all have layers. During each episode you’ll see the layers pulled back. In that sense I’m just like her, wanting to be loved. With Virginia, she’s looking for love because she didn’t have a family. I had a family, so it's a little different but it’s the same essence of wanting to be a part of something and wanting to be better in life.”

“Claws” next episode (Season 1, episode 6), titled “Self-Portrait,” airs on Sunday, July 16 at 9 p.m. EDT on TNT.
