The Colbert Report will return this week with some new episodes, Comedy Central has confirmed to Entertainment Weekly. The program was briefly suspended last week and audience members who planned to attend a new taping of the show received e-mails, noting that the cancellation was because of unforeseen circumstances.

Comedy Central has not said why The Colbert Report was suspended. However, the Wall Street Journal reported reported on Thursday, that a source familiar with the program said that the suspension was because of a Colbert family emergency.

The Huffington Post also reported that a source who has a business relationship with the program said that Colbert's 91-year-old mother, Lorna Colbert, was not doing well. Since then fans have expressed well wishes to Colbert and his family.

Stephen Colbert took to his Twitter account on Feb. 17 to thank fans for their thoughts and prayers.

My family and I would like to thank everyone who has offered their thoughts and prayers, he wrote. We are grateful and touched by your concern.
