The man police believe killed 12 people during shooting rampage in an Aurora, Colo. theater had seen a psychiatrist, his lawyers said in a court filing, Bloomberg News reported Friday.

The psychiatrist said James Holmes was a patient and that her communications with him were privileged, according to the filing, Bloomberg News reported.

Further, Newsday reported Friday that Holmes was being treated by a psychiatrist at the university where he studied.
