English comedian and actor Richard Michael “Rik” Mayall has died at the age of 56, his spokesman said Monday.

Mayall is best known for his comedy partnership with Adrian Edmondson and his role in several television sitcoms including “The Young Ones,” Blackadder” and “Bottom.”

He also appeared in movies like the 1991 comedy fantasy “Drop Dead Fred” and the 1999 film “Guest House Paradiso,” which he and Edmondson wrote.
