Moving away from gas-guzzling SUVs and toward their hybrid and crossover variants is a hot trend once again. As buyers move to lighter and often smaller vehicles, however, they don't necessarily want to give up comfort or features. Recognizing this trend, GMC has decided to fit its GMC Acadia with its upgraded Denali specification.

GMC made a similar move in July, adding the Denali treatment to the Yukon Hybrid. The

addition of Denali trim and features to the Acadia allows the "professional grade" crossover buyer a decidedly more accommodating choice.

The news was broken on Twitter of all places, by Buick-GMC communications manager Dayna Hart. "Denali version of Acadia approved and coming soon," wrote Hart. When, exactly, "soon" will be, or what specific features will be included, is yet to be nailed down.

Do expect a more luxurious interior with generous application of leather, wood trim and electronics like DVD entertainment systems, upgraded navigation and high-quality audio.

If other Denali vehicles are any indication, 12-way heated and ocoled seats, a sunroof upgrade and full power accessories will also be standard in the Acadia Denali. The price of Denali-fication? About $8,000, bumping the Acadia's price to just under $40,000.

Power will still likely come from the regular Acadia's 3.6-liter V-6 engine that's good for 17 mpg around town and 24 mpg on the highway--not quite parsimonious, but far better than your average Yukon, and on part with the competition.

Stay tuned to TheCarConnection for more details as they develop and as always, keep an eye on our reviews for a comprehensive evaluation of the 2010 GMC Acadia Denali.
