How to soothe a Colicky Baby: Health Tip

08 October 2009 @ 02:42 am EDT

Colic is a broad term for conditions that result in excessive crying among young babies. It's perfectly normal, and usually goes away on its own.

The Nemours Foundation offers these recommendations to help soothe a colicky baby:

- Hold baby in a rocking chair and gently rock, or walk the infant around in your arms. Since no one option works for all babies, try a number of solutions until you find one that seems to calm your infant.

- Rest baby across your lap, belly down, and rub his or her back.

- Place baby securely in a swing or vibrating seat. This type of movement helps calm some babies.

- Strap your baby into a car seat and go for a drive.

- Play some music, run the vacuum or turn on a white noise machine.
